City animal laws have a bite

Maderans love their pets, but many owners are still not properly restraining and identifying them, according to Madera County Animal Control Officer Chelsea Ruble.

Asked about animal issues in the City of Madera, Ruble said residents’ compliance with containing their dogs is improving, but officers are still writing warnings and plenty of citations for dogs without licenses or rabies vaccinations, or for dogs running loose, or off leashes and off their property.

No serious cases of abuse or neglect have come to light recently, she said, and that is hopefully an indication that residents are valuing and taking better care of their animals.

“Depending on the day, we can write five or six citations for loose, and/or dangerous dogs. We write quite a bit of paperwork for that because it’s a serious matter,” Ruble said...
