The Madera County Sheriff’s mountain division is investigating massive debit and credit card fraud involving at least nine businesses, Sheriff John Anderson announced Tuesday.
Anderson said the growing criminal trend is costing retailers thousands of dollars.
Blank debit and gift cards with information cloned from legitimate account numbers that belong to someone else are being used to make purchases and check into hotel rooms, Sheriff’s spokeswoman Erica Stuart said.
