The city of Madera escaped serious damage from 16 grass fires caused by misuse of fireworks on the Fourth of July, but firefighters were stretched thin and illegal aerial fireworks set several roofs on fire.
Fire engineer Danny Cesena of Madera City Station 6 said no burns, accidents or injuries were reported, but crews were kept busy.
Firefighters managed to stop the rapidly spreading grass fires before they reached homes and most out-buildings.
