COP of the Year announced

Madera County Sherriff Citizen On Patrol (COP) volunteer Jean Newman, of Oakhurst, was named COP of the year and honored at an appreciation banquet Saturday evening for volunteering more than 400 hours last year.

“She demonstrates a strong work ethic, with great enthusiasm,” said Sheriff John Anderson.

COP Newman was recently appointed Team Leader of the COP Oakhurst Unit because of her dedication and commitment to the Sheriff’s Office and citizens of Madera County.

“Each volunteer is only required to volunteer a minimum of 8 hours a month,” Anderson said. “In Newman’s case, that would have added up to 96 hours. Last year, Madera County Sheriff’s Citizens on Patrol clocked almost 9,000 hours.” That, he says, might seem extraordinary to some, but not to this team of zealous citizen volunteers...
