Local seniors played bingo, croquet, horseshoes and tried their skill at a beanbag toss at a luncheon Tuesday at Rotary Park in Madera, which recognized May as Older American’s Month.
The potluck luncheon, hosted by the Madera Parks and Community Services department at the pavilion area in Rotary Park on Gateway Drive, also celebrated Mayor Robert Poythress’s reading of a proclamation to seniors at an earlier city council meeting.
Senior services coordinator Corinne Long-Folk was very happy with the large turnout. “We have seniors from the Pan American and Frank Bergon Senior Centers and even the Chowchilla Senior Center,” said Long-Folk.
Also taking time out to attend the luncheon were Parks Department Director Mary Anne Seay, Parks Business Manager Mark Etheridge, and Senior Services Manager Ozzie Naranjo. Yvonne Hamilton and Parks’ staff barbecued hamburgers and hotdogs to add to the many side dishes brought by the seniors...
