School district holds job fair

Madera Unified has some new faces today. After an era of budget cuts and personnel reductions, the school district is looking to hire 43 teachers for the upcoming school year. An improved financial picture prompted a move to host a Teacher Recruitment Job Fair Thursday to begin to fill those slots.

Proposition 30 money has allowed MUSD to rescind all pink slips that were issued in March. In addition, the expectation of approximately $6.2 million from the new school funding program (Local Control Funding Formula) has emboldened the district to set aside $2.7 million from the general fund to hire 20 teachers to reduce class size.

Further, 15 teachers will be hired to fill vacancies in the elementary grades, and eight teachers will be brought aboard to meet increased special education needs.

Scores of prospective teachers took advantage of the employment opportunity in Madera by attending job interviews Thursday with one or more of MUSD’s principals who had set up booths in the multipurpose auditorium of Martin Luther King Middle School. Several of those who were trying to nail down a teaching job for the upcoming school year were given offers of employment before they left the building...
