When Madera Unified schools open up to students on Monday morning, the young scholars won’t have to worry about their teachers not being there.

The strike that has been threatened by teachers for months will not take place immediately, so the school bell will definitely ring on Monday morning, starting the 2013-2014 school year.

Although the yearlong dispute between the Madera Unified School District and its teachers shows no sign of abating, both sides still await the report of the state fact finders who are attempting to bring about a settlement. Without that report, the teachers are unable to legally conduct a strike.

Negotiations between the union and the district began in February 2012. The teachers are working without a contract.
