The Madera County Tax Collector’s office is mailing delinquent property tax notices to all property owners who owe taxes to the county from previous years.
If a taxpayer has received a delinquent collection notice and does not feel that it is warranted, they need to contact the tax collector’s office right away to have them do the appropriate research.
“This is one of the unpopular parts of my position,” said Treasurer-Tax Collector Tracy Kennedy Desmond. “Collecting valid taxes is, of course, expected of me, but if we are trying to collect taxes when the taxpayer thinks this is not a valid tax bill, they can get very emotional. We understand completely. Taxes are money and money is emotional, we get that, we understand that.”
