Shelter group offers free pet services voucher

The Red and Nancy Arnold Foundation has given a one-time gift of $1.5 million to Friends of the Madera Animal Shelter (FMAS) to provide free spay and neuter services to owners of dogs and cats in Madera County.

Madera County Animal Services Director Kirsten Gross said FMAS was chosen by the foundation to administer the fund because of the group’s hard work and long-standing commitment to education, adoptions, and humanely reducing the local pet overpopulation through spaying and neutering.

The money will be distributed through vouchers, which then can be taken to participating veterinarians.

The gift will provide roughly 20,000 free spay and neuter vouchers, according to Gross, which will be given out over several years, or for as long as the $1.5 million lasts...
