From the smell of funnel cakes and tri-tip wafting across walkways to the bright lights of Ferris Wheels and merry-go-rounds, the Madera District Fair opened Thursday evening to an eager crowd in the hundreds.
The rising heat wouldn’t keep at least 100 residents from gathering at the Madera Fairgrounds more than 30 minutes before the festivities began at 5 p.m.
“We’ve been here for like an hour,” said 7-year-old Dallas Rodriguez, who held the vaunted first-in-line spot with his twin sister Star and the rest of their family. “I can’t wait to go on the roller coaster because it’s so scary!”
