A stretch of State Route 120 and the Yosemite National Park entrance along it reopened Friday, even as a rampaging inferno within California’s Sierra Nevada grew to the third largest in state history.
The Rim Fire claimed 246,350 acres by Friday morning and remained at 80 percent containment for the third straight day, the update said.
As hotter, drier conditions set in over the weekend, the update said it could become more difficult to combat the blaze.
“Fire activity is expected to intensify Friday as unburned areas within control lines are consumed,” the update said. “Hotter and drier weather conditions will persist through Sunday increasing the chance of spotting of embers across containment lines.” ...
