Rogers chosen as chairman pro tempore
With the new year came a newly-appointed chairman for the Madera County Board of Supervisors during its first regular meeting of 2014 on Tuesday.
Supervisor Tom Wheeler — in his second stint as chairman — instituted a change to the board’s operation within minutes of his official confirmation and adopted a three-minute timer for all speakers, himself included.
“If anyone gets to lipping off too much, they’re done,” said Wheeler, who noted the move was intended to keep the board’s business moving at an efficient pace. “Even I’m not exempt from it.”
Another of Wheeler’s first acts was to honor Nancy Beavers for 15 years of service to the Coarsegold Resource Conservation District, of which she is treasurer, with a commemorative plaque. Before he was elected supervisor eight years ago, Wheeler also was a member of that group...
