Weekend storm approaches
A storm that blew through Madera on Thursday poured .77 of an inch of rain on the town, flooding streets and parking lots and turning sidewalks into splash zones.
The last storm to pass through Madera, on Jan. 30 and 31, dropped a third of an inch of rain — less than half of what Thursday’s storm brought — said Jim Bagnall, a meterologist for the National Weather Service in Hanford.
The heavy rainfall proved to be too much for the roadways to keep up with. Much of Pine Street was flooded before noon and the Madera City Hall parking lot was under water for a couple of hours, as was much of 4th Street.
