The Madera Chamber of Commerce and the Madera Ministerial Association plan to mark the National Day of Prayer with events morning, noon and afternoon May 1.
The 14th annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast, one of more than 40,000 in the nation, will begin the day at 7 a.m. in Hatfield Hall at the Madera District Fairgrounds, 1850 W. Cleveland Ave. A free noon prayer event for all will follow just inside the main fairground entrance. A senior celebration at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 2026 N. Granada Drive, will finish the triplet of festivities from 2 to 3:30 p.m. The afternoon gathering is free for those age 56 and older.
The prayer breakfast will be, according to organizers, “a time of inspiration, fellowship, prayer, and entertainment.” Madera mayor Robert Poythress and Fresno entertainer and statesman Alan Autry will speak. Music for the event will be performed by Change of Heart. Sponsorships for this event are available and tickets are $15 and available at the Chamber Office, 120 North E Street. The number of tickets is limited, so there is no guarantee of tickets being available on the day of the event.
The Day of Prayer Senior Celebration is, organizers said, “to pay tribute to the senior community and serve as a time for them to pray in unity for our nation.” Poythress will be joined at the celebration by guest speaker, Ross Thornton. There will also be music, refreshments and prizes. Tickets, which are necessary to attend, are $2 each for those under age 56 and are free for those older. Both complimentary and purchased tickets are available at the Madera Chamber of Commerce...
