Chowchilla library will be permanent home

CHOWCHILLA — The Central Valley Writers’ Workshop, after a six-month hiatus, will resume its unique read-and-critique session 6:30 p.m. the first and third Thursdays of every month at the Chowchilla branch of the Madera County Library.

The Chowchilla branch is on the corner of North Third Street and Kings Avenue. The workshop sessions will begin May 1.

“I’ve gotten several calls from both libraries and writers who had heard of the group,” said Glenna Jarvis, CVWW’s founder and current president. “When we had to move between libraries, we lost a lot of members. I called the break. Now, with renewed interested I thought, ‘What the heck. Give it a shot and see what happens.’”

Jarvis said the group, at one time 30-members strong, has been home to more than 100 writers over the 10 years it had been in operation. During that time, the group hosted several one-day symposiums and three, two-day conferences. Several of its members have signed with agents and had their works published...
