First 5 celebrates young children with carnival

Young children roamed Courthouse Park on Thursday in an event, the first of its kind, organized just for them. The Children’s Day carnival, organized by First 5 Madera County, was part of a series to celebrate the Week of the Young Child, which will conclude Sunday.

The carnival, attended by about 150 people, featured free activities for children five and younger, including face painting, ring toss, a bounce house, games and dance performances by children from Thrive Fitness. Jamba Juice gave children sugar-free beverages.

Several agencies, including Madera County’s Social Services and Public Health departments, offered information about their services. Vendors sold stuffed animals, Easter baskets and other goods.
