The Madera County Sheriff’s nationally recognized Citizen on Patrol unit gained six new volunteers, sworn in Tuesday evening by Sheriff John Anderson, to form the 20th class of COP cadets.
The volunteers, who joined a more than 50-member strong COP unit, were formally recognized by the Madera County Board of Supervisors, represented by Tom Wheeler, and State Senator Anthony Cannella, represented by Shannon Picciano, sheriff’s spokeswoman Erica Stuart said.
“As with every class of COP Volunteers, each brings a rather impressive resume of past professions, and this new class of recruits is no exception,” Stuart said.
Mike Decker of Oakhurst held a similar position in Sonoma County, where he patrolled state parks on horseback. Doug Morton, who comes to Oakhurst with a background in search and rescue, moved to Madera County after retiring from the Newport Beach Police Department, Stuart said…
