DUI checkpoint scheduled for Saturday

The Madera Police Department will conduct a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint at an undisclosed location with Madera beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday until about 3 a.m.

Officers will look for signs of alcohol or drug impairment and check drivers for proper licensing. Motorists will be delayed momentarily.

Checkpoints have reduced the number of people killed and injured in drug and alcohol related crashes and provide a cost savings to law enforcement of $6 for every $1 spent on conducting checkpoints, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
