After weeks of back-and-forth negotiation, an agreement is nearly complete between the city and county of Madera to temporarily provide a stable water supply to some 3,000 residents of the unincorporated Parkwood subdivision.

On Tuesday, for the third straight week, the Madera County Board of Supervisors approved the agreement, which sends it back to the Madera City Council for final clearance.

Last month, the area’s lone, worn-down well faltered three times and left more than 600 homes with dry taps — a result of continued drought conditions and a water table sinking to the edge of the pump’s limits.

As a result, staff rushed to write an agreement between both governments to temporarily tie Parkwood into the city’s water lines about 40 feet away.
