Officials ask public to set them off safely
As the Fourth of July draws near, more loud bangs are heard throughout Madera and officials are asking the public to be safe and take precautions to avoid injuries, fires or other adverse incidents.
The City of Madera business license office has issued at least 20 permits to fireworks stands run by nonprofit organizations who are trying to raise money for various causes.
City of Madera Station 6 Fire Captain Lisa Nino said residents can buy legal products at these stands.
“Those with the label Safe and Sane are legal and can be found in stands around Madera,” she said. “If fireworks come off the ground, they’re not legal. Bottle rockets, the ones that shoot into the air, are not legal.” ...
