Tawney Jeffries, 46, of Oakhurst, was sentenced to eight years and eight months in prison last week in Madera Superior Court for driving under the influence and causing great bodily injury to two children in an August 2012 crash.
Jeffries was driving westbound on Road 426 near Oakhurst with her minor child when she crossed over the road centerline and struck an oncoming car head on, said Madera County District Attorney Michael Keitz.
The crash gravely injured the two children in the oncoming car. Jeffries was arrested when she failed several field sobriety tests; a blood test later determined she was under the influence of prescription drugs and alcohol, Keitz said.
Jeffries was convicted in March; she was sentenced last week after the court took into consideration that she was on probation for previously attempting to evade a peace officer and was in the possession of marijuana for sale, Keitz said.
