A bicyclist was struck by a pickup truck and landed in the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Gateway Drive about 6:25 p.m. Monday, according to The Madera Police Department.

Officers said the Madera man was very fortunate he wasn’t run over and sustained only minor cuts and bruises, given he wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time he was struck. He was taken to Madera Community Hospital with complaints of pain. The name of the injured man is not being released.

The driver of the pickup truck said he attempted to miss the man, who he said cut in front of him as he was proceeding through the intersection, officers said.

The bicyclist was thrown onto the hood of the Ford Ranger pickup, and into the windshield, before he slid off into the busy traffic lanes, officers said. Other motorists stopped and helped the injured man out of traffic and onto the traffic median until emergency personnel arrived.
