Sheriff candidate announces endorsers

Chowchilla Police Chief Jay Varney announced Wednesday which government and law enforcement leaders are endorsing him for sheriff of Madera County.

“These endorsements represent the votes of the law enforcement professionals and government employees who are your friends and neighbors, who are the first responders who provide your law enforcement services in Madera County,” said Varney with 13 endorsers standing behind him during his press conference at Courthouse Park.

During the June 2014 Primary Election, Varney received the most votes supporting him as the next sheriff.

Varney is supported by nine law enforcement associations, including the Madera Deputy Sheriffs Association, Chowchilla Police Officers Association and the California Peace Officers Association. Madera Mayor Rob Poythress, Chowchilla Mayor Richard Walker and retired law enforcement professional Ronn Dominici were three city officials endorsing him...
