Stallions play, dance to pay their way to Disneyland

The drumline took to the corner of Cleveland and Fairgrounds avenues this weekend, playing for anyone who would listen, in hopes that people would stop and drop some change in their jars.

“We’re raising money because we were selected to march in Disneyland (this November), so they’re now trying to come up with the funds to finalize and secure that trip,” said Jay Rossette, director of Madera South High School’s marching band and color guard. “Any help we can get from the community is always welcome.”

The last chance the Stallions will have to raise money through an event will be Oct. 18. The bands from Madera South High School and Madera High School will host the annual Heart of California Tournament of Champions at Coyote Stadium from 2 to 11 p.m. So far, there are 13 bands enrolled to compete in categories A through AAAAA, Rossette said. The profits from the event will be split between the schools’ bands.

“We’ve been working on this for quite a while so we’re now in the final push,” Rossette said as he watched the students dance and play on Saturday...
