FRESNO — “A transgender man is a man, a transgender woman is a woman,” said a Yosemite High School science teacher who returned to campus after spring break last semester as a different gender.
The transgender activist Karen Adell Scot spoke in Fresno State’s North Gym to a hall full of students Oct. 9 about her transition, the backlash to it and misconceptions towards transgender people in the U.S.
“Transgender people are thought by the general public as men changing unnaturally into fake women or women unnaturally changing into fake men,” Scot said. “Transgender people are not inherently bad. They are not scamming, phony people. They only seek to be authentic.”
