“Heroes don’t wear capes, they wear dog tags,” Madera County Sheriff John Anderson said to a crowd of people gathered in Courthouse Park on Tuesday morning to honor veterans, old and young.
The Veterans Day service was organized by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1981, and American Legion Post 11.
It was an emotional day for all veterans and other attendees. A few veterans clenched their jaws, trying to keep their composure, when the songs “Proud to be an American” and “God Bless America” were sung by the VFW Duo, Karen Faso-East and Mokey Cowger.
During the service, the VFW performed the posting of colors and gun salutes to honor fallen comrades. The American Legion led the Pledge of Allegiance and chaplain David Rodrigues prayed for veterans and the country...
