The Madera County CattleWomen’s (MCCW) association has named Betty Samper as its 2014 Cowbelle of the Year.
Nominated and elected by past honorees, the award recognizes an individual who has supported the cattle industry of Madera County.
Samper was born in Trumbull County, Ohio, where she spent the first five years of her life, according to Cori Meyers, past Cowbelle of the Year. Samper’s father, Clyde Millheim, dreamed of owning a ranch and settled in Raymond. Betty attended elementary school in Raymond, and later went on to high school in Madera.
She graduated from Fresno State University where she obtained her teaching degree. Betty taught elementary school in Merced and Madera, but returned to her roots and taught at Raymond-Knowles Elementary for many years...
