The Soroptimist International of Madera has announced its fall girls of the month: Sabrina Jones and Huma Tanver of Madera High School, Emma Horanic of Liberty High and Jaise Pender of Madera South High.
The honor is offered to high school seniors and awarded based on applications and essays. The women’s service club hosted the students and their parents for a ceremony at a regular meeting. In the spring, the club will award the remainder of this school year’s honorees.
September’s honoree, Sabrina Jones, is the daughter of Cynthia Jones, has a 4.5 grade point average, is a four-year member of the California Scholarship Federation and has been a Camp Fire member since kindergarten. She has spent five years as a junior volunteer at Madera Community Hospital. After graduation, she plans to major in human developmental biology to become a doctor.
October honoree Emma Horanic is the daughter of Barbara Ann Horanic, has a 4.28 GPA, and is a varsity cross country, soccer and track team member. She earned first place in the Trig Star math competition and plays tenor saxophone with the LHS marching band. She plans to attend U.C. Santa Barbara to study biology...
