Pistol raffle to aid Honor Flight

When Harold Johnson won an engraved 1911A1 military specification .45 caliber pistol in a Madera Rotary Club raffle, those with losing tickets may have been disappointed.

But now everyone has a second chance to win the sidearm identical to those carried by soldiers in World War II.

Johnson, a former Madera Elks Lodge exalted ruler, donated the pistol and its locking walnut case to the lodge, which is selling raffle tickets for the prize.

Both this raffle and the prior one will benefit the Honor Flight Project, which funds trips to the nation’s capital for Valley veterans of World War II. There the veterans visit the World War II Memorial and other sites. The pistol has custom Hogue grips engraved with the project’s logo...
