Sheriff appoints public contacts
Two lieutenants in charge of major sections at the Madera County Sheriff’s Office assumed public affairs duties Friday after appointment by Sheriff Jay Varney.
Lt. Bill Ward, head of the office’s Major Crimes Unit and Madera County’s regional SWAT team, joins Lt. Patrick Majeski, supervisor of Valley patrol and the department’s civil and courts units, in handling media requests and public inquiries.
Majeski, with 25 years in the sheriff’s office, has spent the last two as a lieutenant following nine years as sergeant. Though he’d never performed public affairs duties in the past, he said, he was looking forward to the new job.
“I just walked in to it, actually,” Majeski laughed Friday morning. “I’ve never done it before so I’m a little apprehensive but I think it’ll be fun and go really well.” ...
