The 33rd annual Madera County Academic Decathlon begins Friday with high school students competing in interview and essay competitions in the Madera County Office of Education.
Chawanakee Academy, Chowchilla High, Liberty High, Madera High, Madera South High and Yosemite High Schools will compete for the title of county champion. The winner of Madera County’s Academic Decathlon will advance to the state competition in March.
The remaining eight Decathlon events, including the speech competition, will be held Feb. 7 at Madera South High School. This year’s topic is New Alternatives in Energy: Ingenuity and Innovation.
“Students will learn about this timely topic and hone much needed interview, speech and writing skills,” said Cecilia Massetti, Ed.D., Madera County Superintendent of Schools. “Students will use the knowledge and skills acquired through the Academic Decathlon for the rest of their lives.” ...
