Board amends well meter mandates

Rehabbed wells will no longer require meters after a unanimous vote by the Madera County Board of Supervisors, a decision that should be confirmed early next month.

In the first hearing to amend a county ordinance on meters, Public Works Director Johannes Hoevertsz said Tuesday it made sense to remove the requirement on rehab, or repaired, wells after discussion with multiple industries and the public.

“It’s impractical at this time to put meters on rehabbed wells,” Hoevertsz said. “I think it’s going to be better and reduce the stress on those who need rehabs, so we can move forward.”

The ordinance will be amended after a second hearing at the board’s next meeting on Feb. 3...
