New truck stop in works

Ground may soon be broken near the Avenue 17 interchange east of State Route 99 for a new truck stop.

A Love’s Truck Plaza is reportedly being considered for development on the approximately 25-acre vacant parcel on the southeast corner of Avenue 17, the former site of National Equipment, which moved to Avenue 12 1/2.

Plans are to extend Sharon Boulevard, which parallels Highway 99 and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks, to Avenue 17. This would connect the Country Club Drive-Gateway Drive intersection to the new truck stop.

Madera has been awaiting any news of activity in the prime commercial area that once was ready to be developed with a shopping center on property across Avenue 17 from the National Equipment site. The planned North Fork casino and resort project has been projected for property west of SR 99, near the intersection of Avenue 17 and Golden State Boulevard.
