Yosemite High School beat five county schools in the Madera County Academic Decathlon, which earned its nine-student team not only the title, but the chance to represent Madera County at the state level.
The team consists of students in the honors division: Clara Briley, Meagan Montalto and Jonathan Wharton; those in the scholastic division: Christen Cogdell, Gregory Royse, Rebekah Urbano; and varsity division members Rachel Arroyo, Eric de la Parra and Natalya Levashoff.
Steve Browning, who has been coaching the school’s team for 13 years, said he was extremely proud of his students.
“This is the best group of kids I’ve had,” Browning said. “They’ve worked harder than any previous group and I’m proud to take them to the state competition.” ...
