Madera High School’s MadTown Robotics team will be in the world championships for the 10th straight year after an alliance with squads from Davis and San Jose led to the triumvirate’s Central Valley Regional title this weekend.
Madera South hosted the Central Valley Regional for FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Competition, where 49 teams across the western states competed for the top spot.
Sunday’s finals match saw MadTown, Citrus Circuits from Davis Senior High School and The Cheesy Poofs from San Jose’s Bellarmine College Preparatory dominate other three-member squads throughout multiple ro-unds in the game of “Recycle Rush.”
Recycle Rush has three-school teams — who choose allies based on scouting each other’s machines during the three-day tournament — use their bots to stack tote boxes underneath a recycling bin, then transport the tower to marked spots on a playing field for more points...
