Recently elected city council member Will Oliver first got involved in politics in high school, where he served in student government.
However, it was at the Fresno office of state Sen. Barbara Boxer, Dem., that Oliver, now 28, saw the impact a politician’s office can have to address the needs of individuals.
In 2009, Oliver was in his last semester at Fresno State University and was working part-time at the senator’s Fresno office. The mother of a young male in his early 20s called, desperately, seeking help. Her son had been diagnosed with cancer. He had a teratoma tumor that required very specialized medical treatment.
