GVUSD students donate cash and love

For nearly 600 patients at Valley Children’s Hospital, a Monday donation at Liberty High School will soon provide them a moment of brightness through personalized letters written by students throughout the Golden Valley Unified School District.

And thanks to efforts of the high school’s Students 4 Community: Project College club, even more letters will be delivered to many more patients — whether hospitalized for a day or years — later this week.

Claire Copher, a junior student who heads the S4C Club, began its letter donation program in her freshman year. She said the growing efforts of GVUSD students to help support young patients is rewarding.

“We’ve done the letter-a-thon the past two years and last year we got to hand deliver them to patients,” Copher said. “They really enjoyed it, and I think it’s great. It keeps me busy, but in a good kind of busy and especially when dedicated to a good cause, like the hospital.” ...
