Cedar Creek resident turns 101

Annabel Humphrey, a resident at Cedar Creek Senior Living, celebrated her 101st birthday surrounded by relatives during a festive birthday party held at the facility Sunday afternoon. The mayor’s office presented Humphrey with a proclamation in honor of her birthday.

Humphrey was born April 12, 1914, in Yakima, Washington. Her mother was 15 years old and her father 30 at the time. She married Cyril Sydney Humphrey July 17, 1932, in Oakland and they were married for 72 years before he died in 2004.

In addition to living in Oakland prior to World War II, Humphrey has lived in Mesa, Colorado, and Pacific Grove. During World War II, Humphrey worked at a Kaiser naval shipyard on the west coast drawing blueprints for battleships. After the war, she became a professional photographer and worked as a photo-colorist, hand-tinting photographs.

Her many hobbies have included oil painting, stitchery, quilting, reading, traveling and bead craft to name a few. When asked what she thought had led to her longevity, she replied, “Be nice, enjoy life and have fun.” ...
