Today is scheduled to be the first day of operations at the county dump by Red Rock Environmental Group, which won a 10-year contract to operate the landfill, the recycling facility at the landfill and the North Fork transfer station.
Red Rock is a subsidiary of Industrial Waste and Salvage, a Fresno company owned by the Caglia family.
Longtime contractor Madera Disposal Systems, Inc., was fired by the county after the Madera County Grand Jury and others asserted Madera Disposal was withholding money from the county that Madera Disposal had taken in from the recycling operation. The county has sued Madera Disposal to recover what the county says is more than $2 million.
Wednesday was Madera Disposal’s last day as the county’s landfill and recycling operator, and also as its garbage hauler in the county’s rural valley areas. Red Rock Environmental won the bid to pick up and haul the garbage to the landfill as well...
