Church to collect gifts for overseas poor

Madera volunteers with Operation Christmas Child will be filling shoe boxes with toys, school supplies and hygiene items for needy children overseas.

Fourth Street Church of God, 222 N, N St., will be a drop-off site for shoe boxes full of gifts that will be handdelivered to children in 100 countries around the world by international Christian relief and evangelism organization Samaritan’s Purse, which is headed by missionary Franklin Graham.

The church will accept donations 1-5 p.m. Nov. 12-13, 1-8 p.m. Nov. 14, 1-5 p.m. Nov. 15-16, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 17, noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 18, and 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 19.

Operation Christmas Child has collected more than 94 million shoe boxed gifts since 1993. The gift is meant to be a message of Christian hope as it affirms they are loved and not forgotten, the organization said in a news release...
