In what has become an annual tradition, Madera Elks Lodge 1918 held a Flag Day ceremony and presented a $1,000 scholarship to a Madera student.

Members of Boy Scout Troop 117, sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1981, with troop leader Robert Lamburada, performed the flag ceremony. While his fellow Scouts stood at attention holding the flags that represent our country’s history, Scout Thomas Keitz, from the stage, presented the inspiring story behind each flag.

Elks Exalted Ruler (President) Adam Thomas presented this year’s Elks’ scholarship to Kellie Rollins. In attendance was Rollins’ father, Pat; her mother, Gail; and her brother, Kenny. The recipient announced she will attend UCLA in the fall.

Present during the Thursday evening ceremonies and dinner were Elks officers and dignitaries from throughout the Central Valley including District Leader Dave Davidson of the Coarsegold Lodge, District Deputy Larry Faust of Madera and officers from lodges in Hanford, Reedley, Clovis, Delano, and Fresno.
