MUTA leadership seeks strike OK

Vote to come Wednesday

The leadership of the Madera Unified Teachers’ Association is seeking strike authorization from its membership, as negotiations between the union and the district remain stalled.

According to John Seybold, MUTA vice president, the teachers will vote Wednesday on whether or not to grant the union’s executive board and negotiations team the ability to call a strike if they deem it necessary.

If the teachers vote in the affirmative on Wednesday, the union leadership would not have to return to them for permission to actually call a strike. MUTA leaders would already have the authorization.
