A driver lost control of his SUV about 3 p.m. Thursday on Airport Drive, and ended up crashing into the lobby of The Madera District California Highway Patrol office.
No injuries were reported but the front door and public lobby of the building were demolished.
The driver, James Kopshever, 56, a resident and former mayor and city council member of Chowchilla, said he was driving south towards his real estate office on Airport Drive when he had a coughing fit and pulled over just before the CHP office.
“I was coughing and pulled over. The next think I knew I looked up, the air bags went off and I was inside the office. I don’t really know how it happened,” Kopshever said...
