The Madera City Council has voted 5-2 to help fund a feasibility study of a possible consolidation of Madera police dispatch, communications and records departments with those of the Madera County Sheriff’s Department and the City of Chowchilla Police Department.
The vote came Wednesday night after a discussion that made it clear few were in favor of a total consolidation of the three departments.
The study would be paid for by a $95,160 grant from the U.S. Homeland Security Agency, administered among the county and two cities by an Anti-Terrorism Approval Body composed of representatives from the three municipalities.
