Seekers pack workforce assistance center for 90 part-time positions at Marshalls

Hundreds of job seekers lined up Monday at the Madera County Workforce Assistance Center to interview for 90 part-time positions at Marshalls department store.

Job hopefuls began to line up on A Street about 5 a.m., although interviews weren’t scheduled to begin until 7 a.m.

The line, full of applicants of all levels of experience and education, quickly wrapped around the building and along Yosemite Avenue — a reminder of Madera’s current economy and high unemployment rate.

“We’re expecting about a thousand people to show up to open interviews today because we had 1,200 take applications from our office,” said Jorge Espinosa, business services representative for the workforce center. “Marshalls is hiring for 90 positions, only part-time. They are holding some people for second interviews, and they are offering jobs on the spot today if they really like somebody.” ...
