North Fork to celebrate its logging history

Jamboree set for this weekend

NORTH FORK — For more than 100 years, this city has been known as a logging community — and the annual Loggers Jamboree makes sure to honor that history.

“I have lived in North Fork for more than 50 years, and I know first-hand how important logging was to our community,” said District 5 Supervisor Tom Wheeler. “Logging was our lifeblood; it was how we identified ourselves and our community. Every year, the Loggers Jamboree helps us to celebrate those memories.”

The event, which takes place Saturday and Sunday, is a competition of traditional logging skills that includes log rolling, log burling, choker setting, tree felling, hot saws, power saws, hand chopping, hand bucking and axe throwing.

Events are open to both men and women who compete to test their strength, skill and determination. All events are held at the North Fork Recreation Center, 33507 Road 230...
