Film, discussion to focus on teen pregnancies

Organizers of a film screening and discussion hope to address the issue of teen pregnancy and get conversations between parents and their children started about the topic.

The Fresno Regional Foundation is set to host a special viewing of Novelas Educativas’ “Yo Soy Tu Niña” on April 24 from 6 to 7 p.m. A dinner will precede the showing at 5:30 p.m.

“Yo Soy Tu Niña” is an original telenovela-style film series that addresses the issue of teen pregnancy among Latinas, who account for nearly twice the national average, according to the Novelas Educativas Web site.

The company produces entertainment films with educational messages. “Yo Soy Tu Niña,” which translates to “I Am Your Daughter,” is based on a national study conducted by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy and the National Council of La Raza and is rooted in real-life teenage experiences and raises awareness about teenage pregnancy, youth sexual and reproductive health...
