200 attend luncheon

An annual luncheon to raise money for scholarships and other charities drew more than 200 people to the Italo-American Club’s social hall on Wednesday.

The nonprofit organization usually raises more than $1,000 with its plates of spaghetti and meatballs. Evelyn Sutters, who has served as club president for six years, was unsure of how much was raised on Wednesday but considered the turnout to be “pretty good.”

The Italo-American Club also donates to other charities, such as cancer funds, Sutters said. Graduating seniors from Madera High School and Madera South High School are eligible to apply for the club’s scholarship.

This year’s recipient has already been chosen, but yet to be notified. The winner is set to receive $500 later this month and honored in a dinner dance in May.
