A wayward, roaming and vocalizing peacock was recently trapped in a mountain community by a federal trapper and taken to the Madera County Animal Shelter. The large bird is available for adoption for $20 to a home with the space and adequate facilities to house and contain the animal.
The peacock is an adult male with a beautiful, six-foot tail in full plumage, according to animal services and shelter director Kirsten Gross.
Gross said the bird was loose for some time and was roosting on rooftops and in trees next to houses, and generally disturbing the peace of the neighborhoods.
“He was lost and probably out looking for a mate, and that includes calling, which can be quite loud. They also live a long time and need companionship, so people need to be prepared for that,” Gross said...
