Few traffic problems over holiday, says State Patrol

The first major holiday weekend for summer travel passed uneventfully, with moderate traffic flow and no major injury collisions reported, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Sgt. Michael Donnelly said officers watched for drivers under the influence and also concentrated on speed enforcement and motorcycle safety issues.

“There were five DUI arrests and fortunately, no serious crashes. Traffic was heaviest on Friday as people departed for their destinations. The return traffic was sporadic and appeared to be spread out over Sunday and Monday,” Donnelly said, adding that Madera experienced lower return traffic congestion on State Route 99.
